Both Sides Now

大好きな映画Love Actuallyの一場面に、ある女性が夫から渡されたJoniのCDを聞いて涙を流す場面があった。
そのときに流れてた曲が気になった。
それがこの曲。

もうだいぶ昔の曲。

私が借りたCDはJoniが若い頃のもの。
だから、声が伸びやか。
でも、Both Sides Nowなんだよ。

I've just kown both sides of life.
すごく悲しいことだと思いませんか？
それとも、それは人生の醍醐味なのだろうか？
だからこそ、人生は面白いのだろうか？

夢を見ていた。
あらゆることに。
恋愛にも、人生にも、生きることにも。
ずっと子供でいれたらよかったのに。

現実を知って、太陽を覆う雲を知って、それでも覆う雲はいつかは流れて消えていくことも知って。

日本語だと、「青春の光と影」という名がついてる。
そのとおりだ。
Joniの若かりし頃の声は、それを歌うのにやっぱりふさわしく感じる。
まだ汚れとか曇りとかがない声だけど、でも、人生には光の部分だけじゃなくて影の部分もある。
それを理解し、それでも"I really don't know life at all"と歌っている若かりしJoniは私を悲しくさせる。
自分のことを歌われているような気がして、泣きたくなる。

でもね、ちらっと聴いた晩年のJoniの声は素敵。
あの声で歌われたら別の意味で泣ける。
今の自分と重ねるのではなくて、若い頃を思い出してってそんな感じで。

年を重ねて、いろんな経験をして、いろんな感情の襞が自分の中にできて、若い頃を思い出しながらだったら、笑って歌えるような気がするの。

今の私には心に刺さるような歌だけれど。
